Michaias Berlouis Trombone

Michaias Berlouis is a 25-year-old bass trombonist who enjoys playing and working in a variety of musical styles and settings. Born in London of both Seychellois and Trinidadian heritage, Michaias grew up in Northamptonshire. His musical education began and was nurtured by the Northamptonshire Music & Performing Arts Trust. Michaias then spent two years at Chetham’s School of Music before studying for 6 years at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM).

As a performer of classical music, Michaias has worked with orchestras such as the Ulster, Bournemouth and Chineke! Orchestras, Shadwell Opera and Royal Ballet Sinfonia. In the world of jazz; Sticky Wicket & His Swing Orchestra, Olivia Murphy Jazz Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. 

Michaias has had the immense privilege of working with organisations such as Wigmore Hall, London Sinfonietta, Music at Oxford and MishMash Productions as a community musician. He has also enjoyed working as a teacher with Hackney Music Development Trust and Ghetto Classics Kenya.

Michaias additionally enjoys playing solo recitals. Having performed with American pianist Edward Leung at the Foundling Museum in February 2022, he looks forward to playing with Edward again at Wigmore Hall as part of the ‘Wigmore Sessions’ in June 2024.

Learning about different areas of the music profession and honing a variety of musical skills through his studies at RAM and the Benedetti Foundation’s Ambassador Programme has been essential to Michaias’ journey so far. He looks forward to continuing to impact people powerfully through his role as a multi-faceted musician.
