Luísa Sousa Violin & Viola

Luísa is a Portuguese violinist and violist, currently studying under the tutelage of Donnie Deacon at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In her youth, she studied at the Music Academy of Espinho and at the Professional Music school of Espinho before pursuing her Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Following her graduation in 2023, she looks forward to continuing her journey at RCS through a Masters degree.

She has extensive performance experience, having played in orchestral settings from a very young age. A highlight was playing at the Norfolk & Norwich Festival alongside Erland Cooper and Daniel Pioro. Other notable performances include playing at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, the Glasgow City Halls and, more recently, at the Barrowlands Ballroom as part of the Celtic Connections Festival.

In the realm of chamber music, Luísa is a founding member of the Coillte quartet, which explores new sound worlds through unique and exciting collaborations. In 2023, they premiered a work by composer Pablo Martinez and, more recently, they expanded their musical horizons through a collaboration with guitarist Luke Anderson.

Outside of classical music, Luísa is very passionate about musical theatre, having performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the King’s Theatre in Glasgow. She is looking forward to continuing her studies and engaging in exciting future projects.
