In this session, Workshop Leader and Presenter, Lucy Drever, will look at vocal health as a teacher, presenter and workshop leader, as well as how finding your voice can encourage others to find theirs. We'll look at public speaking, what effective communication can look like as a workshop leader, and why creating a safe space in the room is essential for every voice to be heard.

WRITING FOR BEGINNER STRING ENSEMBLE

In this session, Joelle Broad, violinist, educator and composer, will share her approach to writing for beginner string ensemble. Joelle has written all of the repertoire for the Benedetti Foundation’s Introductory and Beginner Orchestras at the Benedetti Sessions, as well as the music used on our Residencies across the country.

‘Responsible programming’ is the buzz word for this Mini Session. Join Clifton Harrison as we look at effective methods and practices for expanding your repertoire that reflects an inclusive 21st century world. This session is aimed at students and musicians who have newly joined the professional ranks, but anyone can benefit. Clifton will share his own approach and research whilst providing some resources for you to continue your own journey.

TEACHING BEGINNER LOWER STRINGS: A SESSION FOR UPPER STRINGS SPECIALISTS

In this session, David Munn (cello) and Stewart Wilson (double bass) aim to cover the things you need to know, and give you space to ask about the things you'd like to know about teaching lower strings to beginners, as an upper strings specialist! 

We will examine what to be on the lookout for when it comes to posture, bow hold and left hand frame, as well as considerations when working with lower strings in a large group or ensemble setting.  Most importantly, we would like participants to feel more confident and comfortable teaching and communicating with cellos and basses."

RESIDENTIAL MUSIC COURSES: A DISCUSSION SESSION FOR INSTRUMENTAL TEACHERS LED BY RACHEL COOPER

Residential music courses are often (not always) a part of a music students’ life. In this session, Rachel will share some of the research she has done into why these courses hold importance for the young people attending them by asking them about their experiences. During the hour, we will explore real life responses from students that attended summer schools. In doing so, this talk endeavours to encourage us to listen more and infer less with the intention of improving the experiences of our students by understanding what is really important to them on these courses.
