Colm Ó Braoin
Violin
Colm Ó Braoin is an Irish violinist who enjoys a busy career as a freelancer player and educator. After reading Irish and Film at Trinity College Dublin he studied with Michael d'Arcy at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and at Institut Supérieur de Musique in Belgium with Marc Danel.
Now based in Glasgow he freelances regularly with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, the Hallé and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
His education work includes tutoring with the Benedetti Foundation and Big Noise. He has supported workshops with learning teams at the BBC Proms, Philharmonia, Wigmore Hall, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and is Assistant Director of the Dublin Youth Orchestra Chamber Music Courses where he has coached for over 10 years.
As a soloist, Colm has performed in Dublin and Berlin with RIAM Chamber Orchestra and Trinity Orchestra, and at festivals including La Crea Transeuropéennes in France, the Sorodha International Composition Competition in Belgium and Anghiari Festival in Italy. In 2017 he gave the Irish premiere of Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons with Co-Orch in Dublin.
He commissioned and plays on a violin by Matthieu Devuyst, kindly supported by Music Network and the Arts Council of Ireland.
