Catherine Alsey Violin
Catherine Alsey is a British violinist from Kent, currently in her third year of undergraduate studies at the Royal College of Music (RCM), studying with Professor Ani Schnarch. She attended the RCM Junior Department (2018-2020) and during this time she was a finalist in the Peter Morrison Concerto Competition and won the Angela Bull Competition.
Catherine was awarded a place in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra 2023. On the Spring Tour, she was fortunate enough to work with maestro Daniele Gatti, and played concerts at the Musikverein, Gewandhaus and Teatro alla Scala. Her upcoming summer tour with the orchestra includes performances at the Concertgebouw, Elbphilharmonie, Kulturpalast, Salzburg Festival and Rheingau Music Festival, as well as a Special Project with Daniel Harding and Martha Argerich.
Catherine was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO) from 2018 - 2021 and was Principal Second Violin in their performance at the BBC Proms in Summer 2021. Catherine also went on tour to Poreč in August 2022 as part of the British – Croatian Festival Orchestra
Catherine attended the New Virtuosi International Violin Mastercourse (2021) and won a scholarship to attend the Bowdoin International Music Festival in America (2022).
Catherine is particularly passionate about music education, sparked from her work in RCM’s Sparks programme, and works on the NYO Creative Music Team, devising and delivering workshops for teenagers across the UK. Catherine also played an active role on the Faculty of the New Virtuosi International Mastercourse (2023).
Catherine plays on a Giovan Paolo Maggini violin.
