Angela LiYen Koo Violin
Angela LiYen Koo is a Malaysian violinist based in Glasgow, Scotland. She is currently completing her undergraduate degree in violin performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying under the tutelage of Tamás Fejes, ad will graduate in July 2024. Besides the violin, LiYen also enjoys playing the viola and piano.LiYen is passionate about music education, having started assisting with music group classes at the age of 15. She has been involved with the Benedetti Foundation since 2023, where she explores different educational styles, support, and learn from her peers. The opportunities to assist in music sessions and residencies with the Benedetti Foundation has immensely helped LiYen gain teaching experience and boosther self-confidence.Improvisation and collaboration are key aspects of LiYen’s musical journey. She collaborates with her peers from various creative fields at RCS, playing new music and integrating different art forms. One of her favourite projects was the RCS Bridge Week project (2023), where she and her peers experiemented with binaural sounds and improvised using a dummy head. LiYen has also been a member of the Orchestra of the Music Makers (OMM) and Persatuan Chopin Malaysia.Throughout her music career, LiYen has won several competitions, including the Chamber Open at The Edinburgh Competition Festival and the ABRSM Ensemble Prize with Persatuan Chopin Malaysia.
